BioAstin Astaxanthin Testing Methods and Titers

Be sure you are getting what you pay for when considering different sources of Astaxanthin. Cyanotech measures the Astaxanthin content in its BioAstin® Natural Astaxanthin products and reports how much pure astaxanthin it contains. A competitor selling Astaxanthin measures and reports the total carotenoid content, resulting in a titer percentage that is misleadingly high because it also contains b-carotene, lutein and canthaxanthin. (Please note that Cyanotech’s BioAstin® also contains these supporting carotenoids, but we believe it is incorrect to include them in our Astaxanthin titer percentage.) Also, Cyanotech uses HPLC for our analytical method of Astaxanthin measurement. This is the most accurate, technically advanced and generally accepted method of measurement. The competing product uses Spectrophotometric analysis which is less accurate.
